Lecture by our member Tania De Nile: Dissenso e stregoneria: passaggi di testimone tra Napoli, Firenze, Bologna e Venezia
Our member Tania De Nile (University of Rome Tor Vergata) will give a lecture entitled “Dissent and Witchcraft: Passing the Baton between Naples, Florence, Bologna, and Venice” at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI) in Lugano.
The event will take place on Wednesday, 10 December, at 11:15, on the West Campus, Palazzo Rosso, room A14.

New conference from our members Francesco Piraino and Marco Pasi: Libertinism and Spirituality between Desire and Rebellion
Two of our members, Francesco Piraino (Fondazione Cini / Ca’ Foscari) and Marco Pasi (HHP – University of Amsterdam), together with Charles Marshall Stang (CSWR – Harvard Divinity School), have organized a wonderful conference at the Fondazione Cini in Venice: Libertinism and Spirituality between Desire and Rebellion.

Talk — “In the Room of the Circles” (book presentation)
On Wednesday, November 12, we’ll present Federico Barbierato’s book, In the Room of the Circles: The Inquisition and Books of Magic in Early Modern Venice (Routledge, London, 2025). The author will chat with Irene Salvo.
Since it’s organized by the Seminario permanente di Storia della Repubblica di Venezia, the conversation will be in Italian, but you can still follow along on Zoom via the link on the poster. If you’re coming in person, we’ll meet at the University of Verona, Polo Santa Marta, room STM 04, via Cantarane.
Everyone’s welcome—on site or online. We plan to present books and works-in-progress fairly regularly, so send us your proposals!

Friday, 24 October — presentation and launch of CHiMere, the international Research Network in Cultural Histories of Magic. Coordinated by Federico Barbierato and Irene Salvo, the network brings together scholars from around the world. On this occasion, Prof. Ane Ohrvik (University of Oslo), currently a visiting professor in the Department of Culture and Civilization at the University of Verona, will deliver the inaugural lecture, Magic in the North. The event will take place at the University of Verona, in Room A, Ex-Palazzo di Economia, from 11:50, and is open to the public. It will also be available on Zoom via the link on the poster.
