Tania De Nile teaches Dutch and Flemish Art History at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, and she is Head Curator of Pietro Canonica Museum in Rome. Adjunct Professor at Roma Tre University (2021) and the University of Calabria (2014-2017), where she was also postdoctoral researcher, she obtained her PhD in Art History in 2013 at the Leiden Universiteit. De Nile also held positions at the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE) in Paris, the NIKI in Florence, and the RKD in the Hague. Her research – supported by grants from the NIKI, the GWO, and the Konosuke Matsushita Memorial Foundation in Tokyo – mainly focus on the fantastic in Italian, Flemish and Dutch early modern art, and in particular on artists dealing with hells, temptations, and whitchcraft scenes such as Jheronimus Bosch, Salvator Rosa, Jacob van Swanenburg, Cornelis Saftleven, and Domenicus van Wijnen. Her monograph “Fantasmagorie. Streghe, demoni e tentazioni nell’arte fiamminga e olandese del Seicento” (Officina libraria, 2023) has been funded by the Phoebus Foundation (Antwerp).
