Damaris Aschera Gehr attained her PhD in Philosophy from the Università Ca’ Foscari, Venice, in 2007. As a post-doctoral fellow, she studied Latin and Early New High German manuscript sources at the British Library, the Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, the Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel, the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek Weimar, the Staatsbibliothek Berlin, the University Libraries of Halle and Kassel. Her research mainly focusses on late mediaeval and early modern magic literature. Her aim is to make accessible to research texts authored by learned magicians, still extant by now only in manuscript form. Currently at Venice University, she is preparing the critical edition of the Summa sacre magice, an extensive compendium on magic theory and practice completed in Perpignan in 1346. On the basis of her source study, she contributes in peer-reviewed publications to reconstruct the history of magic literature, shed new light on its transmission and reception inside and outside the magic tradition, its intercultural character, its content shifts due to reception in changing contexts, its material culture.
