Alessandra Celati earned her PhD in Early Modern History from the University of Pisa. She was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Fellow based at Stanford University and the University of Verona, and has held research appointments at the University of Verona and the University of Turin, where she is currently a postdoctoral research fellow. She has worked for years on religious dissent, publishing numerous articles in Italian and international journals and two monographs: The World of Girolamo Donzellini: A Network of Heterodox Physicians in Sixteenth-Century Venice (Routledge, 2023) and Donne che creano disordine. Storia di Caterina e di altre eretiche (Einaudi, 2025). Her current research concerns witchcraft in Venice between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries: adopting an interdisciplinary perspective that bridges religious history and gender history, she investigates the relationship between magic and the strategic use of sexuality by many women living in Venice, reconstructing their biographies, practices, and networks, and drawing on Digital Humanities tools.
